The Republic of Mali is a country located on the Western part of the continent of Africa. . It is located between 10 deg and 25 deg N latitudes and 13 deg and 5 deg E longitudes. It is spread over an area of 1,240,000 sq kms. The population of the land is approximately 14.5 million. It is divided into eight regions and a district for all administrative purposes. The country shares its boundaries with Algeria, Guinea, Niger, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote d Ivoire and Mauritania. Bamako is the capital of the country. It is a semi-presidential republic. The President is the Head of State and also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. The Prime Minister is the Head of Government. French is the official language of the country. Islam is the predominant religion of the land with approximately 90% people being Muslims. Agriculture and fishing are the major contributors to the economy of the nation. The climate of the country witnesses vast differences from one end to the other. From the tropical to the arid, the changes in the climate are vast.
