Russia or the Russian Federation lies in Eurasia. The Russian Federation comprises of 83 members (or federal subjects). A semi-presidential Republic, the country has a system wherein the President is the Head of State and the Prime Minister the Head of Government. The country is spread across an area of 17,075,400 sq kms and holds the distinction of being the world’s largest country. With a population of 142 million people it is the ninth most populated country in the world. Ruble is the official currency of Russia. Russian is the official language. Orthodox Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism are the predominant religions of the land. Russia is known for its abundant natural resources. It has the world’s largest reserves of forests, freshwater also minerals and energy. The country also has huge deposits of petroleum, timber, natural gas, ores and coal. The land shares its borders with countries like Finland, Norway, Latvia, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, North Korea and the People’s Republic of China.
