Philanthrophy refers to activities that are undertaken keeping in mind the well-being of the humankind. It may involve the payment of money, giving of property or any other work to help the downtrodden and the deserving. These activities are carried out by charitable institutions, businesses and individuals who care about the upliftment of the poor and the development of the nation. Social work of this kind is of help to the people in particular and to the country as a whole. These activities are done purely with a thought of giving and there is no expectation of any reward or return in performing such tasks. It is the noble thought and the compassion that makes it a work that is respected by others.
